Rule Amendments for COVID-19 Safety:  Forced outs at each base (no tagging), no use of dugouts, and roster caps. 

Choose to play from 4 days a week and from 2 skill divisions!



All participants must adhere to physical distancing procedures and other safety protocols when on site.

COVID-19 Protocol & Guidelines

We are committed to providing the highest levels of safety for our community.  


To ensure player and staff safety, we have implemented mandatory 'Safe Return to Play Protocol & Guidelines' for all Club Activities.  In order to play with the Halifax Sport & Social Club and stay in good standing, the following guidelines MUST be followed.  A zero-tolerance policy is in place for those who challenge these decisions.   

To ensure a successful season, please remember to practice safe physical distancing and a positive attitude!

All players are required to read, understand and adhere to the following:

Start / End Dates

Tuesday: Starts Tuesday, September 29 and ends Tuesday, October 20.

 Starts Wednesday, September 30 and ends Wednesday, October 21.

Starts Thursday, October 1 and ends Thursday, October 22.

Sunday: Starts Sunday, September 20 and ends Sunday, October 18.

Sunday League: 5 weeks (5 week regular season, no playoffs).

Weekday Leagues: 4 weeks (4 week regular season, no playoffs)

Estimated Game Times

Sunday League: Rotating start times between 11:00am - 6:00pm

Weekday Leagues:  Games start at 5:45pm 

Game length is 75 minutes.

Note: Every effort is made to equalize the start time and game locations across the league.

Sunset Times:  The start time of games will adjust based on the sunset.  Games in mid/late September may start earlier than the posted to time to accommodate for an earlier sunset.

Team registration (Sunday): $355.00 + HST. 
Team registration (Weekday): $285.00 + HST

After checkout, send your teammates roster invites through the website (under "My Team" player list) so they can accept the waiver and access the schedule and standings once it is posted.   

Individual registration (Sunday):  $45.00 + HST.
Individual registration (Weekday): $35.00 + HST

You will be placed on a roster of individuals at least 3 days prior to your first scheduled game. For ease of communication with our office, teams must select a captain and co-captain on our website to represent your individuals team (click here to learn more about individual teams).

Mandatory Roster Requirements

COVID-19 LEAGUE MODIFICATIONS - Each sport has specific mandatory roster requirements. 



  • 12 players maximum on roster per team.
  • 6 teams maximum per tier.
  • 72 players maximum per tier.


1) All players on your team are required to sign the waiver and show on your Team's roster online. 


2) Game day wellness checks “COVID-19 Self Screening” must be completed by all players prior to participation.

3) Players must maintain physical distancing of 2-meters before, during and after all activities.  This includes arriving on-site, resting/sitting on the sidelines, and departing the game.

4) No Spectators are allowed under any circumstance (this includes kids and pets).

5) No substitutions allowed outside your 12-player roster (unless from the same league and tier).

Team Safety Ambassador (TSA)

COVID-19 LEAGUE MODIFICATIONS - All teams must assign a Team Safety Ambassador (TSA) for the season. 

The TSA must be a registered player and identified using the “TSA” label in your online roster.

TSA Role: 

  • Watch a pre-season Safe Return to Play training video.
  • Keep a record of attendance at each game.  This record may be called upon for contact tracing. 
  • Ensure individual wellness checks “COVID-19 Self Screening” are completed by each player prior to each game.
  • Ask players to leave the game if they arrive showing symptoms of cold or flu.
  • Ensure physical distancing measures are enforced by your team.  Physical distancing of two meters is mandatory when players are arriving on-site, playing the sport, resting/sitting on the sidelines, and departing the game.
  • Sport-specific rules may adjust physical distancing measures taken on the playing surface.
  • Players must always stay within their designated bench or standing area while not on the playing surface.
  • Ensure your team follows posted ENTER / EXIT signage at facilities (controlled traffic flow).
  • Remind all players to arrive on time and leave immediately after the game is over.
  • Ensure your team is following the equipment sanitization requirements for your sport.
  • Ensure all players have read and understand mandatory Club COVID-19 Protocols.


COVID-19 LEAGUE MODIFICATIONS - Teams are responsible for bringing to each game:

  • Set of 4 bases
  • 4 Batting helmets
  • 3 Softballs
  • 2 Pylons
  • 1 Catchers mask
  • 1 Scorebook

A catcher’s mask (to be used by ONLY 1 PERSON for the duration of the season), softballs, pylons and base sets are available to rent from HSSC for a $75 refundable deposit. This can be done at the time of your league registration and in your shopping cart.

Batters and Base Runners are required to wear a helmet (mandatory). Helmets are the responsibility of each team to provide. All teams must have a minimum of 4 helmets (one for the batter and 3 for potential base runners).

Teams are required to wash/sanitize equipment before and after the game.  Do not share your equipment with other teams.


NEW League Modifications

COVID-19 LEAGUE MODIFICATIONS - Returning to league sports will be a unique experience. As part of our "Safe Return to Play" format, we are focusing on the safety of our staff and players and leaning into the FUN and SOCIAL aspects of our leagues!

  • Leagues will be played “for fun” with no playoffs. Scores and standings will still appear on our website.  
  • The “Spirit Score” system for Teams is still in place to share recognition or concerns with us.
  • No prizing or trophies will be awarded. 
  • Leagues will be played in smaller Tiers to ensure limited contact with opponents throughout the season.  Tiers will be determined based on skill rankings (at registration) and past league results.
  • Each Tier will be confined to a limited number of facilities.  You will play at consistent location(s) throughout the season. Please note, we are unable to accommodate or make facility changes based on individual requests this season. 
  • All leagues will have an even number of teams to avoid double-header play. 
  • Game times will be staggered by a minimum of 10 minutes across all sports leagues to ensure safe traffic flow.
  • Players are asked to compete with a “Play On” mentality.  No arguing or disputing calls made during the game. 


COVID-19 RULE MODIFICATIONS - Please refer to the sport rules page to view league rules.  It is the responsibility of all players to read and understand the sport specific rules as well as the general rules & club policies.

Modified Score & Spirit Point Reporting

About Spirit Points: Spirit points are awarded to a team from their opponent after each game to encourage sportsmanship, honesty, integrity and fair play.  For more information and how to properly award spirit points, please see our section ‘All About Spirit Points’.


All games will be played within 25km of the downtown core.

WEDNESDAY: Halifax Commons, Graves Oakley Memorial Park, Rockingstone Heights, Lakeside Community Diamond.

THURSDAY: John McNeil Diamond, Maybank Diamond, Halifax Commons, Graves Oakley Memorial Park, Lakeside Community Diamond, Rockinstone Heights.

SUNDAY: Superstore Field, J Albert Walker Diamond, Tremont Diamond, Halifax Commons.
