Tennis Instructional

Tennis Instructional is taught at the Beginner Level.


You will learn the five most important tennis strokes: forehand, backhand, serve, volley, and overhead. You will also learn the basic rules and scoring for tennis so you can play games right away. And you’ll have fun in a dynamic group environment.


Improve quickly so you can start playing tennis and having fun. Get Better. Have Fun. Play for Life. 


Note: Participants must bring their own tennis racquet.

 

Registration Deadline for Session 1 is Wednesday April 21 @ midnight.
Registration Deadline for Session 2 is Thursday, May 27 @ midnight!

COVID-19 Protocol & Safe Return


We are committed to providing the highest levels of safety for our community.  

To ensure player and staff safety, we have implemented mandatory 'Safe Return to Play Protocol & Guidelines' for all Club Activities.  In order to play with the Halifax Sport & Social Club and stay in good standing, the following guidelines MUST be followed.  A zero-tolerance policy is in place for those who challenge these decisions.   

To ensure a successful season, please remember to practice safe physical distancing and a positive attitude!

All players are required to read, understand, and adhere to all COVID-19 Guidelines.

Start/end dates

Session 1:  Friday:  Starts Friday, April 23 and ends on Friday May 28.

Session 2:  Tuesday:  
Starts Tuesday, June 1 and ends on Tuesday, July 20.

League start and end dates are subject to change.  HSSC endeavors to provide registered players and individuals with as much notice as possible should changes occur.

Class times

Classes run from 7:00pm - 8:00pm.

All classes 60 minutes in length.

Price Individual Registration:

Schedule Schedules and Individual Team Rosters will be posted online two days before your league is set to start.

Mandatory Requirements

COVID-19 LEAGUE MODIFICATIONS 

 

1) All registrants are required to sign the waiver.

 

2) Day of class wellness checks “COVID-19 Self Screening” must be completed by all participants prior to participation.


3) Participants must maintain physical distancing of 2-meters before, during and after all activities.  This includes arriving on-site, participating in the activity, resting/sitting on the sidelines, and departing the activity.


4) No Spectators are allowed under any circumstance (this includes kids, family, etc).

Your Instructors

Your amazing tennis instructors are Stefan, Andrew and Head Coach, Gareth.

Gareth is Tennis Canada Certified – Club Pro 3 and Coach 2

He moved into coaching permanently in 2007 after a successful junior career which saw him represent New Zealand at the World Youth Cup. He accepted a full scholarship at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was ranked in the top 25 of both singles and doubles in NCAA Division II. Gareth has experience at all levels of coaching in New Zealand, the United States, and Canada. It is his desire to continue to grow the game of tennis in Nova Scotia and provide a clear pathway for players of all levels to learn, play, socialize, and compete.

Requirements

COVID-19 EQUIPMENT MODIFICATIONS  - Players are responsible for bringing their own tennis racquet and balls.

Sports Equipment will be sanitized before and after the session.

Do not share your racquet with other players.

COVID-19 RULE MODIFICATIONS - Please refer to the sport rules page to view league rules.  It is the responsibility of all players to read and understand the sport specific rules as well as the general rules & club policies.

The Atlantic Tennis Centre is open year-round; rain, snow or shine. Housing six HarTru clay courts and they are the only indoor clay courts east of Montreal, QC.

COVID-19 Protocol: 

Upon arrival at the facility, please wait until the Atlantic Tennis Centre team welcomes you onto the court.  Play time has been staggered to ensure proper physical distancing measures are adhered to.  Players will be required to wash/sanitize their hands upon entry and work with the instructional team to continually rotate used tennis balls during play.   

Washrooms will be available on site.
